Tiny Lemon Art

I framed a tissue, so now it’s art.

My boyfriend bought me this pack of tiny lemon-printed tissues in Japan, and there are few things I love more than tiny lemons. I wish it were a fabric print… the life of a tissue is far too fleeting for this cuteness! So I matted one and framed it for some tiny art.

I started by peeling the tissue layers apart so I could work the wrinkles out. It was a 3-ply tissue, so 2 white layers and one printed layer. I threw the white layers away, then ironed the remaining lemon layer to soften the creases from the package.

I picked out the best section of lemons within the repeat: 2.25 x 3 inches; and cut a piece of matboard to size. I sanded the corners of the matboard so it wouldn’t tear the tissue.

I trimmed the tissue with some overlap around the matboard, then wrapped it in place and just taped it to the back.

I cut another piece of matboard to the frame size, 3.5 x 5, then lined up the new lemon mat and attached it with double-sided tape.

A simple project but it makes me grin!
