I do not sell the toys I make. I just make them to keep me busy during the day because I am handicapped and it takes my mind off of my pain. Thank you for the pattern and your time.

  2. me says:

“… I ask that you please do not sell anything made from this pattern”

Really? Was it really necessary to point that out? Who the heck would buy such an ugly thing even if someone did try to sell them?

    ROFLMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Anoynomous Person says:

That’s SUPER harsh. Maybe SOME people would love to have something like this.

      • hah says:

Have to ever heard of talent? Or actually taking your time and putting effort into something? This obviously completely lacks that. A much better quality doll that is, yes, not such an ugly thing, could easily be made if anyone with half a brain at least tried. A two-year-old could have made this pattern. Or, apparently, somebody with the intelligence of a two-year-old.

    • Bella says:

How could you be so mean? I mean really? You obvisiously have to much spare time on your hands if you can just go around and insult other peoples work! I think the doll is cute and I would rather have my daughter playing with a cute little innocent doll than a Barbie that encourages her to be something she can’t.

    • Donna says:

No doubt you are one of those who can only think with their eyes closed.

  3. mom2fur says:

You are right. And some people need to find a hobby.

I love the doll. I can see him/her made up to look like a particular child. Thank you for the pattern!

  4. MamaBru says:

Well that was rude of that person. I think the pattern is adorable, I was looking for a simple pattern to make a doll for my niece and my daughter. Thank you for providing a lovely design :)

  5. lola says:

that’s gotta be the weirdest doll I’ve ever seen, but thanks for posting it. Could you give us a sock monkey pattern? I’ve been looking but can’t seem to find one.

  6. carol becker says:

Please do not be rude to somone that has a hobby. If the doll is cute or ugly; keep the comment to yourself. I think the doll is cute or I would not have made it. And I have made some pretty ugly dolls.

  7. carol becker says:

Is there going to be new patterns pretty soon?

  8. kathryn brakefield says:

Carol, I think this is a cute pattern. I can paint hug me on the front with a big heart. thanks.

  9. Carole says:

Really, why come on this site just to insult people? I used this pattern for a little girl who was adopted from China. I cut out and sewed around the edges of plain flesh colored material leaving it up to her to stuff and taught her how to close the opening. With help she made a complete wardrobe for the doll. It was adorable and she absolutely loved it. It was the perfect simple pattern project for her.

  10. Anna says:

Dear ladies.Every one thinking different.Everyone has in mind that mean beautiful, cute and other..Looks on this doll and patterns I am truly telling that I did not find anything cute, just normal doll. It’s good for start sew,(learning for kids). I don’t think that this doll is cute or beautiful. I don’t know if someone will buy this doll????
I don’t think it’s worst to try ..This days the kids like to play with doll???? I seen that Many kids did not want play with beautiful Barbie doll or Brats..I don’t know that kid would like to have this doll ??!!!
For me I would like spend more time and make some beautiful things , not this doll..I don’t think it’s worst spend time.
Dear designer please don’t take this offence, just want say a true comment for you. You may ask for some another patterns did not sell anything made from this pattern ..but not for this doll..
The lady telling the same true, and I don’t think it’s rude..It’s just true stuff about patterns at all..
Who likes that someone lie ??or hear lie??? I don’t think that someone liked !! We liked hear trues!!! So let tell true, but nice… The true about this pattern is , normal doll pattern for kids…

    • Sam says:

Honesty’s always good, this is definitely a learning project doll or a little kid doll… nowhere near perfect, and I didn’t want it that way. But I leave a “do not sell” disclaimer on every pattern I make, because that’s my terms for giving people free stuff. It’s a huggable, happy doll and I like him so I decided to share.

      • Mani says:

        Sam

I am a beginner sewer so this is perfect for me. What do I stuff the doll with?
Sorry for the dumb question. And what kind of material did you use for the boys hair?

I am sorry for the horrible comments some people left on your site. You did not ask for critique, you were just sharing a pattern. If someone did not like it, they should move on to their next project. It’s all in how you deliver a message.

        Thank you

        • Sam says:

Hi Mani – never be shy to ask questions! I love answering sewing questions!

Stuffing – typically, stuffed toys are stuffed with polyester fiberfill. You can find it at Joann’s, Michaels, or pretty much any fabric or craft store.. the only exception would be, say, a quilting-centered fabric store. The big name brand is Poly-Fil, and that’s what I tend to use… I believe it is of a slightly higher quality than the other brands.

For the doll’s hair I used fleece. I tend to use fleece rather than felt for my appliques because it is softer. Neither fleece nor felt ravels, so you can easily use either. Fleece does stretch, which could be seen as a negative – but for a doll like this, you kindof want the fabric to stretch a bit so he can squish.

As far as his main body – I used a very stretchy fabric for his head, which I would not recommend for a beginning seamstress. His shirt is made of standard quilting cotton and his pants are vintage corduroy.

I hope that helps, and feel free to email me if you hit any more roadbumps or have any other sewing-related questions!

          – sam

Rude much Anna? Also, your grammar is… awful. I think maybe you should work on that BEFORE insulting others. It makes it much less confusing for the rest of us. I recommend “The Elements of Style”… not just to you either. To anyone. It is a fun and educational book with adorable illustrations that teens and adults alike love.

  11. Anoynomous Person says:

I LOVE this!! Super cute and simple!

  12. janis says:

I think the doll is adorable looking and I plan to make it!!!

  13. rachel says:

I can’t believe people would take the time to insult this. In a world where everything, including children’s toys, has become so vulgar, this is refreshing. My nine-year-old and I were looking for a doll pattern for her to work on, and she gasped in delight when she saw this. She will love making several and making them each unique. Thank you for the pattern!

  14. stacy says:

    He’s adorable!

  15. What a cute pattern! I’m just getting into cloth dollmaking and I definitely want to make this.

  16. Ellen says:

This is a great pattern for children that need a nice soft bodied doll to sleep with at night. I would think that if you added yarn braids on the side’s you would have a little girl doll. I didn’t see from the first page how tall is the doll, and will you be posting any clothing patterns in the near future for this soft bodied doll pattern?
Thank you for sharing, always nice to share your crafts with others, love it!

    • Sam says:

That’s a good idea, Ellen, I’ll have to think about clothing! My little guy just has his clothes as his permanent fabric – but you could easily use the same approach for a girl doll, just make her have “stockings” instead of pants and slip on an easy elastic-waist skirt!

  17. Crystal says:

What a cute pattern. This is exactly what I was looking for. I am teaching my daughter to sew and was looking for a super simple doll pattern. This is perfect. She loved the picture of the doll, and is looking forward to making this for all her friends in girl scouts. Thank you so much!

    • Sam says:

Awesome! I hope your daughter enjoys it – learning to sew is one of the greatest gifts my mom gave me :) I’d love to see a picture of her doll(s) when she’s done!

  18. Bonnie says:

Ya know I think this doll is a great doll to make for a little boy child who has to play alone. To me it looks like a little boy. I have two baby great grandsons and I think I’ll make them one. to cary around as a friend. Thank you for the pattern.

  19. button says:

i cannot believe that some people would go out of their way to type such nasty things, some one has taken the time and effort to add this to a web page…if you dont like it…simple…move on!

  20. punkinuk says:

@me: “Who the heck would buy such an ugly thing?” Perhaps the same people who stood in line to buy Cabbage Patch Dolls LOL I see a ton of potential in this pattern. I agree with mom2fur that this is a perfect design for modifying to reflect the appearance, character, interests and life stages of a particular child: dark hair, big smile, eyeglasses, cub scout uniform, broken leg, graduation, wedding dress … (Deliberately over-the-top suggestions, but seriously, so many ideas.)

    Hi Sam,
As a sewer and a mom,i just adore this pattern,I also love the ideas that Punkinuk said.
Children like things that are not so fussy,I just hope that you stay in a creative mode and continue to share with those that appreciate it.
To those that say negative things come up with something better,or keep it to yourselves.
Thanks Sam for your creativity, love it

  22. Isnt it a shame people feel the need to be horrid. I like your doll and am so envious of anyone who can do a pattern :) Keep up the good work I enjoy your blog.

  23. VioletAutumn says:

Honestly I do not understand the negative comments. Sam your work is very lovely and thank you for sharing it.

  24. Cathy says:

Let me apologize for the ignorance of others. Please don’t let it affect your creativity. There are those of us who appreciate your generosity in sharing and your pattern making abilities. He’s a cute one and I can see my grandsons loving him. Again, thank you!

  25. Rochelle says:

if i dont have a sewing machine, could my 7 yr old do like iron on stitching or doublesided stuff to hold it closed? I can hand sew in the gaps to ensure its tight. And how did you do the hair? I think she is gonna love it!!

    • Sam says:

The hair is just a piece of fleece cut to shape and sewn on. It’s nice because fleece doesn’t ravel, so you can just stitch close to the edge and don’t even have to turn it under!

Some of the corners are tight on this dolly, so I’m not sure how well an iron-on adhesive would work – it might be too hard to turn inside out. I know 7-year-olds have varying amounts of patience, but handsewing around the edges – especially if you took turns – seems doable, since there’s not much area to cover.

Let me know what you come up with! I’d love to see pictures when you’re done!

  26. alice connors says:

Thank You! Exactly what I was looking for!

  27. Norma says:

    Hi Sam
I cannot believe that people can be so rude and nasty. It just shows a lack of gratitude and any form of creativity. This is a basic pattern and each one can modify it to suit their needs. I hope you do not allow yourself to be discouraged by uneducated, ungrateful people. Thank you for the pattern. Take care of yourself. x

  28. Sharon says:

I’ve been searching for a simple doll pattern that I can make out of silky, soft huggable fabric as a pillow doll to go along with a sleep sack that my grand-daughter wants. This is just what I was looking for! I don’t normally chime in and write a comment but had to add my 2cents after reading the nasty, incorrect reply.

Nice job with the pattern Sam. Thank you for sharing ~ Sharon

  29. Lu says:

All neg.comments it’s about selling the dolls from this patterns.Kind cute patterns, but who will buy those dolls? Agree with others, good for kids, not for sale.

  30. Nothy Lane says:

Oh what a great doll! Thanks for the pattern. I’ve been looking for a sewing pattern to do with my class and this may just be it.

  31. Marty Chamberlain says:

I have a blog also, you can set the comments to subject to approval to keep the idiots from ruining your day.. The doll is cute..Good job.

  32. Diana Morgan says:

It’s said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It’s about time someone made a boy type doll, after all what boy want’s to be seen playing with a girls doll. I would like to see the negative person come up with something kids could play with.

  33. jamie says:

I think the pattern is great!! I’ve looked for a simple pattern I can put my own mark on, and this is it. If anyone out there can do better, then DO it. My granddaughter will love it.

  34. Melanie says:

Cute little fella. He looks like a character from one of the cartoons my son likes to watch. I just might have to make one for him. Thank-you for sharing your pattern.

  35. Rachel says:

My 12 year old daughter has special needs and is currently obsessed with the movie Wayne’s World to the point that she wears a blonde crazy wig on and off during the day and when she’s not wearing it, she carries it around like a dolly and even sleeps with it!!!! I am going to try to make her a Wayne and a Garth doll with this pattern!!! She is going to love it!!!!!!!
